Pull Print

Most people are familiar with normal printing procedure. We call it Push Print. You decide to print a document and then rush down the hall to the printer to retrieve it before anyone else takes it (by accident). With a SafeCom Pull Print solution, this need never happen again!

Pull Print is the safe printing solution for companies and organizations that want an efficient print management solution that saves time and money.

How does it work?

SafeCom Pull Print is the core of the SafeCom concept. With SafeCom Pull Print, documents can only be printed by their actual owners! This provides absolute document security since no documents are physically printed before the user has identified him or herself at the printer and selected the documents to be printed.

With Pull Print, companies can also cut down on the number of small and expensive personal printers and replace them with fewer, cost-efficient multi-function printers (MFPs). All without compromising document security.

In addition, a Pull Print solution reduces the impact of printer downtime because users can go to any SafeCom enabled printer and print their documents.

With Pull Print, users are present at the printer when their documents are being printed so this eliminates the piles of uncollected printouts that are usually left at printers or taken by the wrong person by mistake.

What does this mean for users?

From a user perspective, Pull Print does mean a change in the workday habits. But in most cases, this is for the better; especially for users who print many documents during the course of the day.  With Pull Print, they do not need to rush to the printer every time they print. They can collect all their documents into one batch and then go print them whenever it suits them.

User benefits

Users can:

  1. Print documents from Windows as usual.
  2. Go to any SafeCom-enabled printer whenever it is convenient.
  3. Easily identify themselves with a card and/or code.
  4. Select the documents they wish to print and pick them up from the printer’s output bin.

Users who are printing on special paper or forms will greatly appreciate a Pull Print solution. Once they are logged in, these users will have full control and can insert special paper in the paper tray without worrying about someone else hitting print button in the meantime.

What happens to documents that are not printed?

Documents remain on the SafeCom server until the user identifies himself at the printer to collect the documents. Documents that are not printed by users are automatically deleted after a configurable time.

The next step?

A SafeCom Pull Print installation is the typical place to start. Later, additional functions or features can be added. For example SafeCom Tracking and the SafeCom Administrator API can be added to help track printer usage and/or the SafeCom Encryption feature can be added to encrypt data to make the solution even more secure.
